The Corporation is a leading national producer of electricity, with its strategic involvement in sustainable green projects and in light of the benefits inherent from using solar energy. As early as 2011, the Corporation mapped the roofs of public buildings throughout the city and installed 15 photovoltaic systems, which have sharply reduced air pollution and contribute to a greener, healthier, and cleaner environment ever since. The project, which the Corporation won as part of the State and the IEC's bidding process, entitles it to income from selling electricity produced from the sun, through the electricity grid for a period of twenty years. It should be noted that being a municipal corporation, it was contractually agreed between the Corporation and the Haifa Municipality that the investment of NIS 15 million in the project will be funded by the Corporation, and 50% of the proceeds will go back to the community each year, directly to the city's education department.
The Corporation continues to locate additional public buildings, which will help expand the project by installing more photovoltaic systems that will generate green electricity.
